New language or a foreign language may lead to emotional stress and the ability of children to learn in a classroom or at home. 11. I think these children face severe learning disadvantages due to the gap between their home languages and the other unfamiliar language.Because of unfamiliar language these children end up learning in a language that they don't speak or understand. This prevents them from meaningfully engaging with teaching learning processes in school, which can in turn lead to feelings of helplessness and low self-esteem in children. As a result, their identity and self confidence are also gravely injured leading to negative impact on their academic performance.

In such situations children really face a lots of problems such as understanding, sharing and participating. They feel insecure and scared. They hesitate to reply even though they know the answer. In such conditions the process of learning becomes teach centered. Children can't learn in such situations.

  13. The World Bank’s focus on foundational skills requires that issues of language and Language of Instruction be brought to the forefront of education policy discussions. Poor Language of Instruction policies harm learning, access, equity, cost-effectiveness, and inclusion.

  14. One reason for this is hiding in plain sight: up to 37% of the world’s school children are taught in a language they do not speak at home and do not use and understand well. Language of instruction policies, which should be setting children up for success, are too frequently dooming them to failure right from the start of primary school.

  15. When children are forced to read and write in a language which they neither speak nor understand, the language barrier leads to children not being able to actively participate in class activities or to understand and learn well. Also, children's reading, listening, speaking and writing skills are unable to develop properly and this can have a long-lasting impact on their education.
