What do you mean by ‘print-rich learning environment’? How can you create such an environment for children in your classroom?

  1. Encourage your students to play with words. Keep word board games like Scrabble and Boggle and Balderdash on hand for recess and lunch. Teach them to play the old parlor games Hangman and Dictionary. Develop creative writing exercises that expand students' word usage.

  2. A print rich learning environment is one in which children interact with many forms of prints in a meaningful and relevant manner to make children understand the purpose of print in everyday life.

    As a teacher, we can create a print rich learning environment as under:

    1. Label objects around the class with low booksshelves, pencil and colour stand, washbasin, shoe racks, etc.
    2. Display numbers wherever possible.
    3. Create a word wall with common words, rhyming words and new vocabulary which is of interest to the children. Also create a number wall showing a clock, calendar, gaming toys, etc.
    4. Arrange the classroom library or reading corner with variety of colourful books that children can browse through.
    5. Keep variety of stationery in the reading/writing area with which the children can draw, write and cut-and-paste.
    6. Create a math and manipulative area with blocks, puzzles, mazes, stacking toys, etc.
    7. Have a corner where children's drawings, scribbles and emergent writing can be displayed which may imbibe more zeal in them.
    8. Display related theme charts, posters, groups of letters/aksharas, poems and rhymes that the children might learn in the class.

    A print rich learning environment is one in which children interact with many forms of prints in a meaningful and relevant manner to make children understand the purpose of print in everyday life.

    As a teacher, we can create a print rich learning environment as under:

  6. Print rich environment, an environment where children develop their holistic interest in learning such as painting walls, chart based numeracy etc. It gives them sense as well as helps in creating opportunities for children to interact in the classroom.

    I can create such an environment by the following means:

    *Focusing on visual leaning more
    * Providing variety and essential books inorder to attract the interest of children
    *Displaying numbers , charts where one could easily attract.

  7. Print-rich learning is the next step to better learning and understanding the concepts of what has been learned. It is through visuals that the children make sense of the sound. Print-rich learning enhances the learning capacity by half. It makes involvement and engagement richer and helps to easily paint a picture of something in the learner's mind, therefore make it fairly for something to remember and associate one's learning it.
    There are many ways to include print-rich learning in classrooms. One of them is to make available books, picture books, magazines, picture calendars available for immediate access. There should also be sessions of film screening, where children must be engaged in picture movies and animes in order for them to learn about the ways visuals are used around the world for learning.

  15. It means children's learning with the surrounding environment by seeing such as Wallpaper, Magazines, Drawing, and many more printed stuffs.
    We can make them learn this by asking to solve some riddles, Puzzles , Jigsaw, and so on...
