The school is the one social institution outside the family with which nearly all children have consistent, ongoing contact. Therefore, it is particularly well-duited for identifying endangered children, including those who are being sexually maltreated. Today, many schools are striving to become more effective participants in prevention and intervention efforts designed to reduce the complex problem of child abuse.

Classes on creating awareness on child sexual abuse should be given emphasis. Self defense classes also should be introduced as a part of the school curriculum activities.

Awareness and communication among all stakeholders like children, staff and parents having a clear policy on the delicate issue and having well organised implementation measures will go a long way. In schools teachers can provide awareness to children not only to protect themselves, but also how to report, whom to report, where they can assess to support in case of incedents of child sexual abuse. With the pandamic period the internet has taken over life, it is very important to talk about on line safty with children especially on the issue of online grooming, which can result in a child falling prey to the abuser. It is also important to have safty audits of the staffs and infrastructure of the school, For example regular checking it the CCTVs, whether they are working, ensure that we create a harmony and safe environment for our children.

And if required refer a child to the conselor for further emotional support. If we come to know about the abuse then it is important that we report it to the authority as mention in the POSCO Act about the mandatory reporting clause.
We have understood that how important Schools is which play a viral role in the prevention of child sexual abuse and also the role of teachers in not only responding, but also preventing child sexual abuse. The teachers, administrative staff, helpers, drivers, security guards etc. should also be sensitized on child sexual abuse and norms related to it. School conducts different awareness programs, workshops to teach them about safe and unsafe touch, appropriate help seeking in case of abuse, strategies for responding quickly. Different posters are put in the learning environment example child help line number, good touch and bad touch. During our CACA period we show them different videos, movies, tell them about POCSO. In a school,the teachers play a vital role to uplift students in every perspective.whether it may be, educational,emotional,mentally etc.It's our foremost duty to teach them about good touch and bad touch by conducting drama,play and by organising skit.we should listen to their problems and grievances in understanding any kind of confusions.

It is important to inform children about child abuse and about what could happen, it's important for them to know how to react in certain situations. Children should learn the difference between good and bad touch very early.
ReplyDeleteChildren spend most of their time in the school. In School teachers play very crucial role for alround development and safety of the students from taking any incident. Teacher is a role model of the school providing not only subjects related knowledge but also self protection ,road safety and awareness about child sexual abuse, their private body parts, about good touch and bad touch. And have open discussion with the students in a friendly ways . Providing self defense classes for protecting themselves. And if possible CCTV camera should be installed in the school campus and check them regularly. Put a complain/suggestions box in the school for written complain for sexual abuse etc.

ReplyDeleteAs a teacher we must make sure to always pay attention to the students attitude and behavior. Most of the time the victims are scared and lost. Therefore it is the duty of the teachers to always pay attention to the students. Also we must spread awareness about child abuse in any form at home as well as in school. We must also make sure to gain the trust of the students so that they can confine in us and ask for help in any form.

Teachers should make children's more participative by empowering them to raise voice against any such incident. So, practice like showing short movies and videos to the children should be done to engage the children with the very idea of raising their voice. School can also do a lot in bringing awareness by engaging parents on such issues relating to child abuse. School can also sensitize senior class students by making them participate in such activities relating to cases of senior students indulging in ? Bullying younger ones that sometimes take the form of child sexual abuse. Students should be made aware of issues like child sexual abuse, domestic violence dowry, female foeticide and gender parity. Therefore, it is vital for teachers and others school personnel to be provided with training not only in detecting possible abuse but in responding to intentional and accidental disclosure by children.

Education will give the children confidence to counter their hard tasks. ReplyDeleteTeachers are acting as real parents at school so we teachers has to guide and explain all other things required other than their lessons from textbook. Awareness program related to present form of social changes, do and don't, and counselling, telling stories of some incident of minor, etc. If possible sex education program can be given to girl students by lady teachers. Also teacher must know latest information about child abuse and harassment. All teachers must work together with same responsibility and one goal.
