  1. 1. Observation skill is critical for gaining command on other science process skills. It helps in widening the conceptual understanding by children of things around them and also in promoting their natural curiosity.

    2. Observation nurtures relationships and learning. ... Use observation for an objective view of a child. When you really see the child, you get to know her and see more of her abilities, interests, and personal characteristics. Knowing each child helps you to plan individualized and developmentally informed activities.

  4. Fundamental to all scientific activity, expert observation is a complex practice that requires the coordination of disciplinary knowledge, theory, and habits of attention. On the surface, observation appears to be a simple skill Consequently, children may be directed to observe, compare, and describe phenomena without adequate disciplinary context or support, and so fail to gain deeper scientific understanding. Drawing upon a review of science education, developmental psychology, and the science studies literatures, this article examines what it means to observe within a disciplinary framework. In addition, everyday observers are characterized and a framework is proposed that hypothesizes how everyday observers could develop practices that are more like scientific observers.

  5. Observation skills help students to know what is happening in his/ her surrounding. Majority topics taught by the teacher is understandable by the students using their individual observation skills. It enhances scientific attitude of the students. During practical classes or experiment classes through observational skills they learn the concept very easily. And thus able to do the experiment themselves.

  6. Children with keen observation skills collect information and form questions. This is the basis of inquiry and it leads to discovery and learning. Observation involves the senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Teachers and parents should engage children in activities designed to sharpen their competence in observation.

Children are natural observers,That is how they go about the world around them. However everyday observation is significantly different from the kind of observation skills necessary for success in science. The idea was simple :students would simple bird feeders around the school grounds and make systematic observations. They would thus learn about birds through conducting authentic inquiry.Evaluations at the end of the inquiry, however, revealed that students had gained no disciplinary knowledge ,nor had they learned anything about the process of inquiry, observation had been conceived of as a simple skill, when real scientific observation is far from simple.

    But what exactly is observation?
Observation is the action or process of observing something or someone in order to gain information. Our observation skills inform us about objects, events, attitude and phenomena using one or more senses Additionally, being able to observe and gather information about the world is important because it's the basis of communicating well.

Ability to use all five of your senses to recognise, analyze and recall your surroundings.
We observe objects and events using all our five senses, and this is how we learn about the world around us. The ability to make good observations is also essential to the development of the other science process skills communicating, classifying, measuring, inferring and predicting.
Observation requires students to note the " big picture " and the find details.
Encourage your students to describe what they see in details. This will help them identifying properties and make more knowledge hypothesis. When studying Botany, for example have them do more than just note the colour and shape of the flower. Galileo not only believed in what he observed through the newly invented telescope, he believed in the newly emerging views of scientific knowledge based on reasoning and observations.
Observation is generally considered to be the touchstone of objectivity in science; it seems to be primarily observation that provides an independent standard for the evaluation of theories and hypothesis. Observation skills help children in learning of science as toddlers stacked foam blocks and examined colourful cylinders. This may look like a child's play, but it is an early education science. Here, the goal is not necessarily for them to build a tower, but to explore. Observing is the most fundamental scientific skill for obtaining information, constructing meaning and gaining knowledge about the world. Also, science education for early learners is not just about memorizing terms but actively participating in science lesson through play.
Children's are astute observers. They automatically observe, think and do. They begin to develop science skills such as observing, classifying, reasoning and predicting. Whether children's are walking in the park, playing with ball, or digging dirt, they are fully engaged in questioning, observing, testing, thinking and learning. They are in sense “ doing science". Hands-on with learning science helps in developing science skills among children's. With hands-on approach to science, instead of finding the easy answers students are inspired to ask questions about the world around them and apply this method to solve their own problems. Science skills are best developed when hand-on activities or experiments are fully integrated into the learning process, rather than optional add on or recipe activities. This helps children in pursuing skills for more learning everyday.
