  105. Learning activities are range of activities promoted to achieve learning, such as: dissemination activities, discussion activities, discovery activities and demonstration activities. This includes Individual learning and group learning/cooperative learning. Here, individual learning refers to the attainment of knowledge through teacher instruction and individual practice in a classroom. Whereas, group or cooperative learning means the gaining of knowledge that results from two or more students working together in the classroom.
Some of these learning activities, can be grouped in individual learning and some in group learning. There are many studies which support both individual and cooperative learning styles but students can retain and reiterate more accurate information when they work in small groups with one another. This was personally seen in my class, the scores of students were found higher when learning activity was conducted in group. Higher test scores were correlated with the group work, while lower test scores were correlated with individualized learning. The very same students who scored low on their tests after individual instruction scored high on their tests after learning in a small group with their peers.
In learning activity, rubrics has proved to be an excellent tool used while assessing students work. The learning activities which includes individual as well as group activities can be assessed by the use of rubrics. It can be used to structure discussions with students about different levels of performance on an assessment task. Rubrics can be employed during peer assessment and self assessment, to generate and justify assessment. After the students are familiarised with rubrics they can assist with the idea of rubrics design process, this makes the students more responsible for their own learning.
